WHAT TO EXPECT

Even before we meet you in person, our desire for you is that you might know the love and forgiveness of God through Jesus Christ, that you might grow in the love and knowledge of God, and that you would live a life of humble submission and passionate pursuit of God's mission and glory. We want what God wants for your life, and we would love to be a part of what God is doing in and through you.

We realize how difficult it can be to find the church God would have you to be a part of, and how it can often be an uncomfortable and fearful experience to visit a church for the first time. This is where we want to help.

Below are a few commonly asked questions that we want to answer for you, so that you can know what to expect from your experience at Faith Baptist Church.

WHO WE ARE & HOW WE BEGAN

His Story. Your Story. Our Story.

Faith is Family.

These statements represent who we are as Faith Baptist Church. Our story is that we are a group of people whose stories have been radically changed by God's story---the story of God's redemption through Jesus Christ. Because of the Gospel, we are now a family---which means we celebrate, mourn, struggle, and work together as one body. God, through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, has redeemed us and joined us together as His church to grow in the love and knowledge of Him, so that we might make His Gospel known---all for His glory. So, you may be wondering...how did all of this begin? How did Faith Baptist Church become what it is today? Here is our story.

On May 20th, 1951, a lot on the corner of State Boulevard and 23rd Avenue in Meridian, MS was dedicated for the purpose of establishing a new baptist church. One week later, twenty six people interested in the organization of this new church attending a meeting concerning the new church plant. On June 12th, 1951, the first prayer service was held in the basement of a local home. The following couple of weeks, two Sunday School classes were started---a class for men called "the Log Rollers" and another class called "Faithful Workers" for ladies. One month later, there were classes for all ages meeting in a local apartment. At midnight on May 24th, 1952, the men of the church drove the last nails in a small building constructed at the back of the church property. The next day, which was a Sunday, the church was officially founded as State Boulevard Baptist Church with fifty-four members. This Sunday would be the beginning of two-weeks of revival services, and the church grew to eighty-eight members. On November 16th, 1952, ground was broken for a new building, including a sanctuary with a seating capacity of 300 and an equal amount of educational space. After the building process, this new building would be dedicated and used for the first time on May 31st, 1953. Other additions to this building would be added as needed in the years to come. Over the next half-century, State Boulevard Baptist Church would grow in size, both in its membership and in its ministries.

In 2000, a long-range planning committee was appointed, and one of its recommendations was to investigate the feasibility of relocating the campus of State Boulevard Baptist Church to another site which would provide the potential for future growth. In August of 2001, a recommendation was made that the church purchase land on Highway 19 North for the construction of a new building, and it was approved with a ninety-five percent vote. Construction began in October of 2004. In November of the following year, the name of the church was officially changed to Faith Baptist Church, and on December 25th, Christmas Day, 2005, the first regular Sunday service was held at the new site of Faith Baptist Church. A dedication of this new building would be held in April of the following year.
